An Exceptional Event 5CAPITALS in Summer 2010 The story of the 5 CAPITALS is told in Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Minor Matters. The 5CAPITALS was in the Jan / Feb 2010, May June 2010 Minor Matters July/August 2009 edition of Minor Matters volume XXXI No 1 on page 6. It had an excellent summary with a good map illustrating the route. In 2009 National Rally, there was a stand again. On the Saturday, it was in the car park and so rather out of the way for most people. On Sunday it was located at the North Wilts Branch prominent position. In 2008 March / April there was information again in Minor Matters on page 7 At the National MMOC Rally in 2008 and there was a stand giving information about the proposed event. The 5CAPITALS was first shown in Minor Matters on page 5 of the July/August 2007 edition. |
This page is about the 5CAPITALS event planned by the North Wiltshire Branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club. This includes information about the event. |

It started on Saturday 24th July 2010 at Malmesbury, Wiltshire. It was week of driving round 5 capitals. We met at each capital, but otherwise we make our own way round. Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and London. The times and location were agreed and the cars kept in touch by mobile phones. |
There were activities that raised awareness of British Heart Foundation and raise funds for it. It was enjoyed and done together. What an achievement it was - and a memory for the rest of our days! Great fun and friends made. There was some MMOC members with their Morris Minors at Malmesbury, Cardiff, Fishguard, Durham, Hertford and again on return to Malmesbury. Raymond Dawes was there at the start, through Wales and again at he end with his Police car. The 5 CAPITALS enjoyed the hospitality. The cake kindly donated by the Durham MMOC (at a special dinner) North Eastern Branch was won at the Elmer Kite Festival as the successful Morris Minors returned to Malmesbury. It raised £52. |
If you would like to see the sponsorship for this event please click HERE. It is very easy to use. There is short video of the start. In total the event raised just over £3,000 |
This event was not suitable for museum type cars, but for live in daily use cars of the Morris Minor Owners Club. It was aimed to stimulate the younger members and develop the confidence in using Morris Minors in practice. It was a challenge, and when achieved it became a rewarding success. |
The event was promoted at the national Branches meeting and AGM of the MMOC in 2008 and 2009. There was no national events organiser (to communicate, coordinate, support and encourage) but external invitations to participate in national things are organised by the national MMOC committee. This event was accepted, and given personal support from the branch liaison and public relations officer. It was initiated and organised through the North Wilts Branch, who had very little experience to build upon. |
Raymond Dawes' ex-Police car. The children loved it! |
